Heldt made clear that the club is standing firmly behind its decision, dismissing the online criticism in the strongest possible terms.

"It's just embarrassing. I've noticed it, but I refuse to read or even expose myself to that kind of nonsense — for me, this is purely about quality, and leadership quality at that," Heldt stated.

"We have absolute confidence in Loui. I find it completely insane that we still have to deal with this sort of thing in the modern era. We are talking about a highly competent leader, and everyone at Union Berlin — in the stands and within the club — stands entirely behind this decision."

## A Career Built on Firsts

At just 34 years old, Eta is no stranger to breaking barriers. A former Germany youth international and Women's Champions League winner with Turbine Potsdam, she joined Union Berlin's coaching staff as the Bundesliga's first-ever female assistant coach back in November 2023.

She had already etched her name into football history in January 2024, when she stepped in to manage the team from the touchline during a 1-0 victory over Darmstadt — the first time a woman had ever led a Bundesliga side during a match. Eta had been deputizing for then-manager Nenad Bjelica, who was serving a three-game suspension at the time.

This summer, she is also set to take the helm of Union Berlin's women's team, adding yet another dimension to her growing leadership portfolio.

### Already Proven as a Head Coach

Heldt highlighted Eta's prior experience leading Union Berlin's U19 squad as a key factor in her appointment, emphasizing that she arrives with a genuine track record rather than simply potential.

"She had a tremendous run with the U19s, so she already has head coaching experience under her belt," he said. "On top of that, a huge advantage is that we all know her and she knows us. She doesn't need to be introduced to anything here — she knows the stadium, the atmosphere, the people, and most importantly, the players."

"We genuinely believe that a head coach can only truly fulfill that role if they have done it before. That's exactly why appointing her was the most logical step forward."

Heldt also confirmed that Eta took charge of her first training session on Tuesday, describing her as someone who is "getting a handle on things very, very quickly."
