Miami (Ohio) RedHawks Stay Perfect at 30-0, Clinch MAC Title in Thrilling Fashion
The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks survived a nail-biting clash with Toledo to remain the last undefeated team in Division I men's basketball.
Miami (Ohio) RedHawks Make History With 30th Straight Win
The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks men's basketball team is rewriting the record books. On Tuesday night, the No. 19-ranked RedHawks edged out the Toledo Rockets in a heart-stopping 74-72 victory, pushing their flawless record to 30-0 while simultaneously clinching at least a share of the Mid-American Conference regular-season title.
With no other Division I men's basketball program remaining undefeated this season, Miami stands alone at the top — and their remarkable run now represents both the best start and the longest winning streak in MAC history.
A Championship Moment to Remember
The atmosphere inside the arena was electric as confetti rained down on the court following the final buzzer. Players and fans celebrated together as the team hoisted the regular-season conference trophy, savoring a milestone that few programs ever experience.
Star player Peter Suder captured the spirit of the moment perfectly when speaking to reporters.
"That's the beauty of basketball: When you're having fun with the right group of guys, you can become unbeatable," Suder said. "It's a surreal moment, obviously."
Suder also took a moment to acknowledge the unwavering support of his family throughout his college career. "They've been with me through it all, and I'm just super-happy they were there tonight and soaked in the moment as well."
The senior contributed 19 points to the winning effort and is currently averaging 14.8 points per game on the season.
Toledo Pushed Miami to the Limit
Tuesday's win was anything but comfortable. The Rockets refused to go quietly, trimming Miami's lead to a single point on four separate occasions throughout the contest. Toledo's Austin Parks had a golden opportunity to flip the scoreboard in his team's favor, but Eian Elmer came up with a crucial block at the rim to deny the bucket.
With just 13 seconds remaining and trailing by two, Toledo had possession and a genuine shot at pulling off the upset. However, a costly turnover in the closing seconds extinguished any hope of a comeback, sealing Miami's narrow but well-earned victory.
Breaking a Long-Standing Rivalry Drought
Beyond the unbeaten record, Tuesday's result carried additional historical weight. The win completed Miami's first season sweep of Toledo since the 1996-97 campaign. Even more impressively, it extended the RedHawks' current winning streak against the Rockets to three consecutive games — a sharp turnaround from the painful stretch in which Miami dropped 22 straight matchups against Toledo between 2012 and 2024.
What's Next for the RedHawks
With the regular season nearly complete, Miami will close out their schedule on the road when they face the Ohio Bobcats on Friday night. With a perfect record and conference title already secured, the RedHawks will be looking to finish strong and carry their momentum deep into the postseason.
The Cinderella story out of Oxford, Ohio shows no signs of slowing down — and the rest of the college basketball world is taking notice.
