French football superstar Kylian Mbappe has launched a fierce public rebuke against a Paraguayan senator who targeted him with racist and demeaning comments on social media following his country's elimination from the FIFA World Cup.

The Remarks That Sparked Outrage

Celeste Amarilla, a member of Paraguay's Liberal Radical Party, took to the platform X to post a series of racist statements mocking Mbappe's background and level of education. Her comments came in the immediate aftermath of Paraguay's Round of 16 exit at the hands of France — a defeat that appeared to fuel her inflammatory online outburst.

Mbappe's Powerful Response

The Paris Saint-Germain and France forward did not hold back in his response, addressing the senator directly and without hesitation.

"Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position," Mbappe wrote. "You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition."

He went further, pointing out how her behaviour had overshadowed her own nation's achievements on the global stage.

"Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country," he added. "I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world."

French Football Federation Pursues Legal Action

The French Football Federation (FFF) responded swiftly and with equal conviction, announcing its intention to pursue criminal charges over Amarilla's remarks, labelling them "utterly abhorrent and unacceptable."

In an official statement, the FFF declared: "These remarks are criminal and reprehensible. They must be prosecuted here as elsewhere. The FFF is reporting the matter to the public prosecutor's office with a view to legal proceedings. These remarks bring shame upon those who make them and those who disseminate them. The players of the French national team represent France; it is our country that is being insulted."

A Pattern of Racist Commentary

Amarilla's posts were not an isolated incident. Prior to the match, former Paraguayan international goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert made headlines for referring to France as "a squad from Africa" — a comment widely condemned as racist and reductive.

FFF president Philippe Diallo was quick to respond to Chilavert's remarks, calling the former goalkeeper a "disgrace" to the sport.

"I condemn in the strongest possible terms the racist remarks made by Jose Luis Chilavert against the French national team, which undermine the values of respect, fraternity, and diversity in our football," Diallo stated. "If he was once a great goalkeeper, this man has now fallen into disgrace."
