Gabby Logan Reflects on Losing Her Father, Football Legend Terry Yorath
Television presenter Gabby Logan has opened up about grief, love, and the deeply personal final moments she shared with her father, celebrated footballer and former Wales and Leeds United manager Terry Yorath, who passed away in January 2026 following a brief illness.
A Final Conversation Full of Meaning
In a candid interview on a Hello Magazine podcast, Logan described the experience of losing a parent as utterly "discombobulating" — yet found unexpected solace in the flood of tributes and personal stories that poured in from fans following her father's death.
"Your dad is one thing to you, but to all these other people he was something else entirely," she said, reflecting on the outpouring of public affection for her father.
On the evening Terry Yorath died, Logan had shared what would become a profoundly meaningful final exchange with him. She recalled discussing his funeral arrangements and the music he wanted, before reading aloud a deeply moving email she had received earlier that day from a devoted fan.
"I was in tears reading it to him, and he died that night," Logan shared. "I sat and had that really incredible conversation with him, read him that email. In the aftermath, I thought — what a privilege to be able to do that for him."
The gesture, she explained, gave her father a sense of reassurance about the legacy he was leaving behind. "I said to him, 'I know I'm going to get more like these,' and sure enough, they flooded in."
The Comfort Found in Sport and Community
Logan credited the world of football with providing tremendous comfort to her family during their period of mourning. "I think sport is really amazing in these moments — football was incredible and comforting," she said. "As a family, we took a lot of comfort from that."
She also expressed immense pride in the quiet, unsung qualities her father demonstrated throughout his life. "To hear what kind of person he was when you weren't looking — it's not about the show. It's what somebody does quietly that nobody knows about."
World Cup 2026 Duties and a Personal Disappointment
Despite her grief, Logan is pressing forward professionally and is set to front coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 next month as one of the tournament's leading presenters.
However, she admitted to a personal letdown when it came to her opening assignment. Speaking to Wales Online, Logan revealed she had hoped her first studio appearance would feature a Wales match.
"My first game is a personal disappointment because, in my mind, it was supposed to be Canada vs Wales," she explained. "Although I'm genuinely excited about Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina, it wasn't the game I had envisioned when I first saw my schedule."
Logan's willingness to speak openly about both her grief and her professional life underscores the deeply human side of one of British television's most respected sports presenters.
