YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Subscription Prices Are Going Up
YouTube has confirmed price increases for its Premium and Music subscription tiers in the U.S., continuing a broader trend of streaming service hikes.
YouTube Raises Prices on Premium and Music Subscriptions
YouTube has officially confirmed that it is increasing the monthly subscription costs for both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music across the United States. The price adjustments affect individual plans, family plans, and the budget-tier Lite option.
New Pricing Breakdown
YouTube Premium
The YouTube Premium individual plan will rise from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while subscribers on the family plan will see their bill climb from $22.99 to $26.99 per month. YouTube Premium Lite — a more affordable tier that provides ad-free viewing on most content but excludes music videos and songs — will increase modestly from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
YouTube Music
For dedicated music streaming subscribers, the YouTube Music individual plan is moving from $10.99 to $11.99 per month. The family plan for this service will increase from $16.99 to $18.99 per month.
A History of Rising Costs
This is not the first time YouTube has adjusted its subscription pricing. Back in July 2023, the platform raised YouTube Premium from $11.99 to $13.99 per month, while YouTube Music went up from $9.99 to $10.99. The latest round of increases marks the second significant price adjustment in roughly two years.
Part of a Wider Streaming Industry Trend
YouTube's decision to raise prices aligns with a pattern seen across the broader streaming landscape. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video both implemented price hikes recently, while Spotify adjusted its rates earlier this year. Other major platforms including HBO Max, Peacock, and Disney+/Hulu also raised their subscription fees over the past year.
For consumers juggling multiple streaming subscriptions, these cumulative increases are adding noticeable pressure to monthly entertainment budgets. Whether YouTube's enhanced features and ad-free experience continue to justify the higher cost will ultimately be a decision each subscriber must weigh for themselves.
