US Congressman Formally Demands Sarah Ferguson Testify Over Jeffrey Epstein Connections
A US lawmaker has sent a formal letter urging Sarah Ferguson to testify about her ties to Jeffrey Epstein and her ex-husband Prince Andrew's alleged involvement.
US Lawmaker Issues Formal Demand to Sarah Ferguson Over Epstein Ties
A United States congressman has formally urged Sarah Ferguson to appear before a congressional committee and share what she knows about her relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The letter, exclusively reviewed by the BBC, marks the most direct and official pressure placed on the former Duchess of York since the Epstein scandal first erupted into public view.
The Letter and Its Key Demands
Democratic Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, a sitting member of the House Oversight Committee, dispatched the letter to Ferguson on a Thursday, giving her a strict two-week window — until April 9, 2026 — to respond. In the correspondence, Subramanyam cited recently released US Department of Justice files on Epstein as evidence of Ferguson's "close personal and business ties" to the disgraced American financier.
"As the committee seeks justice for the survivors of Mr Epstein's criminal enterprise, and transparency for the American public, I respectfully request your co-operation with the committee's investigation," Subramanyam wrote.
The letter additionally requested that Ferguson disclose any knowledge she may hold regarding her former husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's role in Epstein's network. Despite officially divorcing in 1996, the pair continued to share a residence at Windsor's Royal Lodge.
What the Epstein Files Revealed About Ferguson
The massive release of Epstein-related documents earlier this year cast new light on the depth of Ferguson's involvement in his social world. Among the most striking revelations was an email attributed to a "Sarah" — written after Epstein's 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor — in which Epstein was described as "a legend" and the sender wrote, "I am at your service. Just marry me."
Further emails suggest that Ferguson personally appealed to Epstein for financial help, painting a picture of someone who described herself as "very traumatised and alone." In a 2009 message, she reportedly referred to Epstein as "the brother I have always wished for."
Perhaps most controversially, correspondence indicates that Ferguson maintained contact with Epstein while he was incarcerated and reportedly brought her daughters to share a meal with him in Miami shortly after his release from prison.
It is important to note that being named within the Epstein files does not constitute evidence of wrongdoing.
Bipartisan Pressure and Family of Victims Speak Out
Subramanyam's demands were publicly supported by Democratic Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury, who called on all individuals with knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities to cooperate with investigators for the sake of his survivors. However, the House Oversight Committee remains under Republican control, and GOP members have yet to signal any support for compelling Ferguson's testimony.
The family of prominent Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre also added their voices to the growing chorus. A representative for Giuffre's brother, Sky Roberts, told the BBC: "If Ferguson knows anything, she should testify in the United States immediately."
It is worth noting that no legal mechanism currently exists that would force Ferguson — a British citizen residing in the UK — to appear before a US congressional panel.
Ferguson's representatives have been contacted for comment. Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing connected to Epstein and has not responded to the BBC's requests regarding the recently released files.
A Steady Fall From Grace
The Epstein revelations have carried significant personal and professional consequences for Ferguson. Multiple charitable organisations have cut ties with her following the disclosure of her Epstein connections. In October, she lost her duchess title after Mountbatten-Windsor relinquished his Duke of York designation amid his own Epstein-related controversy, and she was subsequently required to vacate Royal Lodge.
More recently, the honorary Freedom of the City of York was stripped from her — yet another blow in what has become a sustained and very public unravelling of her reputation.
US lawmakers have repeatedly — and thus far unsuccessfully — called upon Mountbatten-Windsor himself to answer questions about his ties to Epstein. Those calls have gone unanswered, and there remains no indication that will change in the near term.
