After years of swirling rumors and mounting anticipation, the quest to find the next James Bond has formally begun. Amazon MGM Studios confirmed in an official statement that casting is now actively underway, bringing the long wait for Daniel Craig's successor one step closer to an end.
"The search for the next James Bond is under way," the studio announced, offering fans the reassurance they have been waiting for since Craig's final appearance as the iconic spy.
According to leading Hollywood trade publication Variety, auditions have already been taking place over recent weeks. While the studio is keeping specific details close to its chest, it promised to share updates with fans "as soon as the time is right."
Five Years On From No Time To Die
It has been five years since the release of No Time To Die, Daniel Craig's farewell to the role he inhabited across five films and 15 years. Craig's tenure as 007 is widely regarded as one of the most transformative chapters in the franchise's history, making the task of finding his replacement all the more significant.
Amazon MGM Studios assumed control of the Bond franchise roughly 15 months ago and has since been laying the groundwork for a new era. The studio has already made two major creative announcements: acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, the visionary behind the Dune saga, will helm the next installment, while celebrated Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will pen the screenplay.
Who Is Leading the Casting Search?
The casting search is being conducted by Nina Gold, one of Hollywood's most respected and sought-after casting directors. Gold has an impressive track record, having worked on major franchises including Paddington, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Mamma Mia!
Among the names currently topping bookmakers' lists are Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson — though the producers could yet surprise audiences with an unexpected choice. Whoever lands the role will become the seventh actor in history to officially portray James Bond across the franchise's remarkable 64-year run on the big screen.
Studio Promises to Honor the Bond Legacy
Speaking at CinemaCon last month, Courtenay Valenti, Amazon MGM Studios' head of film, addressed the widespread curiosity head-on while urging patience.
"Please know that we're taking the time to do this with care and deep respect," Valenti said. "It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it's a responsibility we don't take lightly."
She added that pairing one of cinema's most beloved franchises with a world-class filmmaking team was setting the stage for "something truly worthy of the Bond legacy."
Script Progress and Key Creative Talent
Screenwriter Steven Knight, speaking to BBC News at the Bafta TV Awards, expressed enormous confidence in how the project is developing. "It's going fantastically," Knight said of the script, adding: "I am 1,000% confident that when this gets out there people are going to really love it."
The upcoming film — set to be the 26th official entry in the Bond series — will be co-produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, two of Hollywood's most accomplished producers. Pascal is best known for producing the recent Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland, while Heyman is the acclaimed producer behind all eight Harry Potter films.
No details regarding the supporting cast, storyline, or release date have been made public at this stage.
