Ramaswamy Dumps Entire BuzzFeed Stake After Securing Ohio Governor Nomination
Vivek Ramaswamy has offloaded his complete holdings in BuzzFeed Inc. following his Republican nomination for Ohio governor and a major acquisition announcement.
Ramaswamy Exits BuzzFeed Investment Following Political and Corporate Developments
Vivek Ramaswamy, the biotech entrepreneur who recently secured the Republican Party's nomination for Ohio governor, has completely divested his stake in digital media company BuzzFeed Inc.
The Share Sale Details
According to a regulatory filing released Thursday, Ramaswamy sold approximately 3.1 million BuzzFeed shares on May 12 at an average price of $1.56 per share. In addition to his equity holdings, he also offloaded 39,000 warrants at just four cents each, effectively closing out his entire position in the company.
Timing Tied to Major BuzzFeed Acquisition
The timing of Ramaswamy's exit is notable. His share sale occurred just one day after BuzzFeed publicly announced that prominent media mogul Byron Allen would be acquiring a controlling 52% stake in the company for $120 million. The former presidential candidate's decision to sell ahead of — or immediately following — such a significant corporate milestone raises natural questions about portfolio strategy as he shifts his focus toward his gubernatorial campaign in Ohio.
A Busy Political and Business Season
Ramaswamy has remained a high-profile figure in both business and political circles. Having previously mounted a presidential campaign, he pivoted to Ohio state politics and clinched the Republican nomination earlier this month. His divestiture of BuzzFeed shares may reflect an effort to streamline his financial interests as he prepares for the demands of a gubernatorial race.
