Paddington: The Musical Is Heading to Broadway in 2027
The award-winning West End sensation is crossing the Atlantic. Paddington: The Musical will make its long-awaited Broadway debut in March 2027.
Paddington: The Musical Is Coming to Broadway
One of London's most celebrated stage productions is preparing to conquer New York. Paddington: The Musical has officially been confirmed for a Broadway debut, bringing the story of everyone's favorite marmalade-loving bear to American theatre audiences for the very first time.
Opening Night Set for Spring 2027
ATG Entertainment has announced that the production will open at the prestigious Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 30, 2027. Importantly, the Broadway run will operate simultaneously alongside the show's ongoing engagement in London's West End, meaning fans on both sides of the Atlantic can experience the magic at the same time.
A Story That Has Captivated Generations
The musical draws its inspiration from the iconic children's books written by Michael Bond, which chronicle the charming adventures of Paddington — a small, wide-eyed bear from Peru who finds an unlikely home with the Brown family after being discovered at London's Paddington station. Over the decades, Bond's beloved character has evolved far beyond the printed page, spawning three hugely successful films and a lasting place in popular culture.
Seven Olivier Awards and Counting
The production's West End run at the Savoy Theatre has been nothing short of extraordinary, earning seven Olivier Awards — tying the all-time record for the most Oliviers ever won by a musical. That remarkable achievement has set the stage for what promises to be an equally triumphant Broadway campaign.
The Creative Minds Behind the Magic
McFly frontman and songwriter Tom Fletcher composed the music for the production, and he has spoken passionately about what the project means to him.
"This has been the greatest adventure of my career," Fletcher said. "The response from West End audiences of all ages has been unlike anything I've ever experienced. It's a great privilege to welcome New York audiences into Paddington's world of curiosity, and I am absolutely thrilled at the opportunity for this very rare and special bear to be on Broadway."
Playwright Jessica Swale, who penned the musical's book, expressed equal excitement about the New York transfer.
"As a city that breathes theatre, storytelling and imagination, Broadway is the perfect place to celebrate this exuberant and heart-filled story," she said. "I can't wait. Let's just hope Paddington loves 'Big Apples' as much as he loves oranges."
The Puppet That Brings Paddington to Life
One of the production's most talked-about technical achievements is the way Paddington himself is brought to life on stage. The character is portrayed through an intricate puppet operated by a skilled two-person team. James Hameed serves as the remote puppeteer, controlling Paddington's facial expressions and providing his voice, while Arti Shah physically embodies the bear's movements on stage. The seamless collaboration between the two performers has become a standout feature of the show.
Broadway Awaits
With its record-breaking awards haul, a passionate creative team, and a character beloved by audiences of all ages, Paddington: The Musical arrives on Broadway with formidable momentum. New York theatre-goers will have their chance to experience the phenomenon when the curtain rises at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in the spring of 2027.
