Over $94,000 Raised for Family of Fallen Soldier Sgt. Declan Coady

A powerful wave of public support has emerged for the family of U.S. Army Reserve Sergeant Declan Coady, a 20-year-old soldier who lost his life during the ongoing conflict with Iran. More than 1,500 donors have contributed to a GoFundMe campaign in his honor, collectively raising upward of $94,000 as of Thursday morning.

A Young Soldier Lost Too Soon

Coady, a Des Moines, Iowa native and student at Drake University, was among six U.S. Army Reserve soldiers killed in a drone strike on Sunday at the Port of Shuaiba in Kuwait. The attack occurred while the troops were supporting Operation Epic Fury, as confirmed by the Department of War (DOW). At just 20 years old, Coady was the youngest among the four soldiers formally identified by the DOW following the deadly incident.

He had enlisted in the Army Reserve in 2023, serving as an information technology specialist. In recognition of his ultimate sacrifice, Coady was posthumously promoted from specialist to the rank of sergeant. Drake University, where he was pursuing studies in information systems, cybersecurity, and computer science, remembered him as someone who was "well-loved and highly dedicated."

GoFundMe Campaign Draws Thousands of Supporters

The fundraising campaign was launched by Marianne Crandall shortly after Coady was publicly identified on Tuesday. His father, Andrew, has been designated as the primary beneficiary of the funds raised.

In her campaign description, Crandall painted a vivid portrait of the young man behind the uniform.

"Declan was more than a soldier — he was a son, a family member, a friend, and a light in the lives of those who knew him," she wrote. "He served his country with honor, courage, and dedication, embodying the very best of what it means to wear the uniform."

Crandall outlined that the funds would be directed toward funeral and memorial expenses, travel costs, and any other unforeseen financial burdens the family may face during this difficult time. She urged the public to "come together to honor Declan's life, his service, and his sacrifice — and to surround his family with love and support."

Donors Share Heartfelt Tributes

Alongside their financial contributions, donors flooded the campaign page with messages of condolence and gratitude. Contributor Brandi Vinson wrote, "Thank you for your bravery, service, and sacrifice. God bless and comfort his family." Another donor, Travis Terrell, added, "My heart truly goes out to Declan's family and everyone who loved him. No family should ever have to experience a loss like this. You are in my thoughts, and Declan will not be forgotten."

The campaign's single largest contribution — $10,000 — was made by a donor identified as Daniel Buroker, though his identity could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.

A Nation Mourns a Dedicated Servant

The loss of Sgt. Declan Coady is a stark reminder of the human cost of military conflict. As U.S. casualties continue to rise in connection with operations against Iran, communities across the country are stepping forward to offer whatever support they can to the families left behind. The overwhelming response to this GoFundMe campaign stands as a testament to the gratitude and compassion that Americans hold for those who serve in uniform.
